It’s that time of year again!
As we reach the end of both the winter term and the academic year, students and parents are likely already focusing on 2027 and beyond.
3R-English students are taught a thorough and comprehensive array of skills. These abilities will equip them for school entrance exams, university, EIKEN, TOEIC, and employment.
We assess and mark these skills each lesson in order to award an accurate grade each term. Our school reports are designed to show students and parents how they have performed and to offer guidance and focus for the next term.
Students are always taught by a native British English teacher and are marked on the following skills:
Speaking & Listening / Question & Answer work
Overall understanding of the subject matter
Phonics & English pronunciation skills
Reading
Dictation
We also monitor and mark their homework for:
Presentation
Handwriting
Understanding of work set
Punctuality
Students are regularly tested on their progress in:
Revision exercises
Spelling
Phonics
Callan Method textbook stage exams
So that parents can be kept well-informed and pupils can see where they have done well or need improvement, we award an overall percentage plus an overall grade.
Grades are awarded as follows:
90-100% = A+. Exceptional.
80-89% = A. Excellent.
70-79% = B. Good.
60-69% = C. Satisfactory.
50-59% = D. Barely Acceptable.
0-49% = F. Failing.
Included in these figures are ‘attendance’ and ‘participation’ marks. We believe consistency is an important factor in learning, so these will affect your child’s overall grade as well.
The teacher also includes a personal summary of the student’s term. We encourage both child and parent to read this and use it as a focus point for the upcoming term.
Pupils who have not yet learned any written skills in class, or are still at the ‘phonics stage’ of learning, are still assessed but are not provided with end-of-term reports.
We hope you can see that at 3R-English, we are passionate about what we do. Our mission is to get the very best out of every student while helping them to develop confidence and achieve their own personal goals.
If you would like more information on what we do and how it can help you, please visit our previous blogs, our testimonials page, or contact us for advice.
Good luck to everyone. (We haven't seen an F grade yet!!!)
