Fancy swapping your Callan English book for some popcorn?
Watching English-speaking films is one of the most effective and enjoyable ways to achieve fluency. Beyond just entertainment, cinema acts as a high-speed lane for language acquisition.
1. Master a Real-World LanguageWhilst our study materials at 3R-English are designed to teach you current and up-to-date conversation, films will expose you to authentic dialogue, including slang, idiomatic expressions, and various accents, all of which help you to understand how native speakers actually communicate in everyday situations.
2. Context is EverythingIn a film, you don’t just hear words; you see them in action. Visual cues like facial expressions and body language provide critical context, making it much easier to infer the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary.
3. Perfect Your PronunciationBy listening to actors, you naturally absorb correct intonation and rhythm. Using techniques like shadowing—repeating lines immediately after you hear them—can dramatically sharpen your speaking clarity. This technique is already similar to our push/pull Callan English lesson style.
4. Cultural Immersion from HomeFilms offer a window into the traditions and social norms of English-speaking countries. Understanding this cultural backdrop is essential for truly effective communication.
… at 3R-English Academy we now have a small DVD rental library for our adult students!
We have a variety of well-known titles, including comedy, drama and action films, many of which are highly rated or have won awards.
Students can borrow titles to watch at home to supplement their English studies for FREE.
The films are mainly Region 1, Region 2 and Region 4. (A multi-region DVD player can now be found on Amazon for under JPY4000!!!)
Please see the full list of titles and regions in the classroom.
So, the next time you press ‘PLAY’ on your remote, remember: you aren’t just watching—you’re learning!
